The Benefits of Music for Children

Music has a magical effect on children. Music may be energetic as well as comforting, and it can aid with bonding and transitions. Music "hath charms to quiet a ferocious beast," as anybody who has sung a restless child to sleep knows. And, as you've probably realised while wrestling your little savage into their clothes, singing to make the process fun also makes it a lot easier!

These music benefits are persuasive reasons to make every day with your child a musical one! And, as it turns out, there's a lot of learning to be done as well.

Music Learning Supports All Learning

The benefits of learning music for children in our research-based Music Together programmes include learning how to sing in pitch and keep a tempo. Another significant advantage of learning music is that it can foster your child's creativity and self-expression while also increasing his or her confidence. Learning music also benefits your child's entire development, which we refer to as Music Learning Supports All Learning. Active music-making develops new brain connections that benefit your child's language, social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development. Benefits for Babies, Toddlers, Preschoolers, and Big Kids

Learning music has advantages for children of all ages. Learn more about your child's developmental stage and the sort of class that is best for them.

  1. Babies - Your baby is a natural-born musician, cooing along with you while you sing a nursery rhyme or squirming to your favourite song. Even infants are sensitive to musical stimuli and respond to melody and rhythm. You'll learn musical techniques to interact and bond with your baby, promote their brain development, and foster their inner musician in one of our Babies or Mixed-Age sessions.

  2. Toddlers - Your always interested, sometimes irate toddler is learning about the world and interacting with adults and other children in novel (and often surprising) ways. Toddlers learn through observation, play, and experimentation. Our Mixed-Age sessions are ideal for this type of learning because they allow youngsters to participate in their own unique way in a casual, family-style setting.

  3. Preschoolers Your preschooler's musical inventiveness, excitement, and talents are exploding! Preschoolers are the class leaders in our Mixed-Age classrooms, and they are encouraged to share ideas and lead the younger children, who love to observe and mimic them. Furthermore, because Music Learning Supports All Learning, your preschooler will be gaining other abilities that will help them excel in school and in life.

  4. Big kids Your adolescent has gained confidence and new leadership abilities. Older children enjoy challenges, structure, and rule-based games, but don't be fooled—they still enjoy playing! With music games, animal rhythm stories, and lots of stomping-flying-climbing fun, our dynamic Rhythm Kids sessions tap into how children this age are wired to learn.
